Sweet Release, Pamela Clare (książka z 2003 roku, średnia ocen na goodreads 4,03, czyli niezła)

When a woman buys a dying convict to save his life, she little suspects he is truly an English aristocrat who will soon steal her heart.
"I read a story to-night. It ended unhappily. I was wretched until I had invented a happy ending for it. I shall always end my stories happily. I don't care whether it's 'true to life' or not. It's true to life as it should be and that's a better truth than the other."

The Last Good Man, Kathleen Eagle (rok wydania 2000, na gr 3,58/5, u Mrs Giggles 89/100 :P )

Savannah Stephens has finally come home to the purple hills of Sunbonnet, Wyoming, after years of living a life far different from the one she's known. But her return has set Sunbonnet's queen bees buzzing. Why has this successful woman returned home? And where is the unknown father of Claudia, the beautiful six-year-old daughter she brought with her?

But Savannah isn't talking. Not to her Aunt Billie who raised her, and not to the childhood friends she left behind. Savannah's been hurt deeply, and the worst scars of all --the ones she's sure will never heal -- are the ones that no one can see or touch. But one person refuses to let her retreat in isolation. When Savannah went east to find fame and fortune, strong, silent Clay stayed in Sunbonnet and tended his horses. But his steadfast love for Savannah never wavered, and he's not going to give up on her now.

Soon Savannah cannot help but yield to the force of a man with the heart, soul, and grit to persist. For her heart knows that she hides from the one thing that can heal the hurt consuming her body and soul.
"I read a story to-night. It ended unhappily. I was wretched until I had invented a happy ending for it. I shall always end my stories happily. I don't care whether it's 'true to life' or not. It's true to life as it should be and that's a better truth than the other."

The Bro-Magnet, Lauren Baratz-Logsted (nie tak dawno książka była zrecenzowana na Dear Author, dostała B)

Niestety tu też nie znalazłam innej wersji niż na kindla.

Women have been known to lament, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." For Johnny Smith, the problem is, "Always a Best Man, never a groom." At age 33, housepainter Johnny has been Best Man eight times. The ultimate man's man, Johnny loves the Mets, the Jets, his weekly poker game, and the hula girl lamp that hangs over his basement pool table. Johnny has the instant affection of nearly every man he meets, but one thing he doesn't have is a woman to share his life with, and he wants that desperately. When Johnny meets District Attorney Helen Troy, he decides to renounce his bro-magnet ways in order to impress her. With the aid and advice of his friends and family, soon he's transforming his wardrobe, buying throw pillows, ditching the hula girl lamp, getting a cat and even changing his name to the more mature-sounding John. And through it all, he's pretending to have no interest in sports, which Helen claims to abhor. As things heat up with Helen, the questions arise: Will Johnny finally get the girl? And, if he's successful in that pursuit, who will he be now that he's no longer really himself? THE BRO-MAGNET is a rollicking comedic novel about what one man is willing to give up for the sake of love.
"I read a story to-night. It ended unhappily. I was wretched until I had invented a happy ending for it. I shall always end my stories happily. I don't care whether it's 'true to life' or not. It's true to life as it should be and that's a better truth than the other."

The Beauty Bride, Claire Delacroix (z 2005)

More cherished than gold are the Jewels of Kinfairlie, and only the worthiest may fight for their love...The Laird of Kinfairlie has unmarried sisters, each a gem in her own right. And he has no choice but to see them all wed in haste.

Lady Madeline's heart is not for sale...especially not to a notorious outlaw like Rhys FitzHenry. Yet Madeline's hand has been sold, to none other than this battle-weary warrior with a price on his head. A more dutiful maiden might cede to the Laird's command and meekly accept her fate, but Madeline has never been obedient. She decides to run away, though she never dreams that Rhys will pursue her. She does not expect this taciturn man to woo her with fanciful stories, much less that each of his enthralling tales will reveal a scar upon his shielded soul. She never imagines that a man like Rhys could imperil her own heart while revealing so little of his own feelings. When Rhys's past threatens his future, Madeline takes a leap of faith. She dares to believe him innocent -- and risks her own life to pursue a passion more priceless than the rarest gem.
"I read a story to-night. It ended unhappily. I was wretched until I had invented a happy ending for it. I shall always end my stories happily. I don't care whether it's 'true to life' or not. It's true to life as it should be and that's a better truth than the other."

She endured because there had been no choice; she could not go back, there was nowhere to go back to, and besides, she still loved him. She was appalled when she discovered he was prepared to gamble with her life and she had been won in a game of cards by Captain Paul Fourier, home on leave from the Peninsular War.
She found herself with Paul in Portugal, following the army as it went to war. And here she learned why so many women followed their men into battle and here she discovered the true meaning of love.

So Tempting Jean Brashear (autorka pisze zwykle dla hq, u nas wyszedł jeden)

A mesmerizing, wealthy recluse...a rookie detective who can't afford to trust him...temptation beyond measure...

Rookie detective Jace Carroll's first case plunges her into a tangle of deadly secrets and a decades-old feud. At the center of the puzzle is the enigmatic and mesmerizing Dante Sabanne, a sexy, powerful, wealthy recluse whose expertise in ancient poisons and exotic sexual practices makes him by turns a crucial expert witness, a devastating lover...and possibly the man behind a cult whose rituals have turned from depraved to deadly.

Jace's devotion to the law and her stubborn refusal to back off from duty makes her the last temptation on earth Dante can afford to indulge when he is conducting a secret battle against a foe intent on destroying everyone important to him, a battle she can only complicate.
Every encounter between them ratchets up the stakes and the explosive chemistry between them only flares hotter—but the consequences could be deadly if she makes the wrong choice between the evidence before her eyes…and the yearnings of a heart she is no longer sure she can trust.

Susanna and the Spy, Anna Elliott

What if the man you loved was a smuggler--or a spy?

Jobless and nearly destitute, Susanna Ward intends only to find work as a governess. She certainly has no intention of contacting her family, who cast off her father and scorned her mother years ago. But a chance encounter with a figure from her past suggests that her estranged grandfather was murdered, and that his death was connected to a local ring of smugglers, led by a mysterious figure who calls himself Captain Clark.

When Captain Clark himself appears at her door, wounded and in need of her help, Susanna must decide where her true loyalties lie. And she must also discover the truth of her grandfather's death. Otherwise the man she is rapidly falling in love with may be hanged for treason and murder.

Susanna and the Spy is a cozy mystery, appropriate for all ages. It is approximately 70,000 words in length.
"I read a story to-night. It ended unhappily. I was wretched until I had invented a happy ending for it. I shall always end my stories happily. I don't care whether it's 'true to life' or not. It's true to life as it should be and that's a better truth than the other."
