Nora Roberts’ “The Search,” scheduled to be released in July, centers around Fiona Bristow, who owns a dog training business and is part of the search and rescue volunteer team. She seems to have the perfect life living on Orcas Island off Seattle’s coast, but getting there has not been an easy journey.
As a college student, Fiona was abducted by a serial killer but managed to escape. Though Fiona survived, the Red Scarf killer murdered her finance and his dog, who was trying to protect him. The serial killer was captured and incarcerated, and his only survivor retreated to her island solitude.
Fiona’s not alone on the island. Her stepmother owns a shop in the village, where readers are introduced to a new Orcas resident, Simon Doyle, an artist. Simon’s being driven mad by a new puppy named Jaws, but he’s in luck, there’s someone on the island who can help.
Simon seeks out Fiona and enrolls Jaws in training classes. Fiona’s not really Simon’s type, nor is he hers, but sometimes opposites attract. But as the pair begin to bond, Fiona’s past crawls out of the darkness — a copycat killer bent on reclaiming the one who got away.
Roberts, a master of mystery, hits a home run with this novel. “The Search,” filled with suspense, romance and a lot of dogs, is one fans of this best-selling author shouldn’t miss.
